Flying is not the only way to arrive in Mallorca, there are also many ferry routes proving an attractive and increasingly popular mode of transport for those wishing to travel from many nearby ports such as Barcelona, Menorca or Ibiza. You can also travel from ports further afield such as Plymouth and Portsmouth in the UK.

From Spain
If you are already on the mainland of Spain and need a car ferry or a catamaran to Mallorca then catching a ferry is an alternative way to arrive in Palma. Please note early booking is recommended on both of these services either by telephone of via the respective websites, although tickets can also be bought at the port of embarkation. Prices vary depending on season, fare structure, length of stay, accommodation onboard and the type of vehicle and each company does run quite a complicated pricing system. However, there is not too much of a difference whichever mainland ferry port you depart from.

Car ferries and catamarans run from Denia to Palma daily and take 10 hours and 7 hours respectively or from Valencia, daily, with a journey time of 8 hours via car ferry and 5 hours via catamaran. Please note only Spanish is spoken on the telephone number listed above.

The main car ferry and catamaran routes to Palma are from Barcelona taking 8 hours and 4 ½ hours respectively with between 2 – 4 crossings per day. There is also a route from Valencia to Palma, operating once daily, which takes 9 hours via ferry and just over 6 hours by catamaran. These crossings do not operate from early December to late January. English and Spanish spoken.
From Ibiza
Travel between Ibiza Town and Palma is available with both Balearia and Trasmediterranea and once again early booking is strongly recommended, in particular if you are bringing a car with you. The adult passenger fare by ferry is approximately €30 one way in peak season and the catamaran around €60, although good discounts are on offer for day returns. If you’re looking to take a car with you on board a standard sized model up to 1.8 metres costs €70 one way and on a catamaran around €120 in peak season.
